1. What we collect
Account details. Your email address and your password. Your password is stored only as a secure one-way hash (Argon2), so nobody, including us, can read it.
"Notify me" requests. If you tap "Notify me" while paid packs aren't available yet, we keep your email address on that list and email you when they open.
Credits and usage. Your credit balance and plan, and a record of each credit added or used. When a credit is used, we record the ID of the YouTube video it was used for, so we can show correct balances and help if something goes wrong.
Payments. When you buy credits, Dodo Payments handles the payment. We receive a payment ID, the pack you bought and the amount. We never receive or store your card number.
Security and anti-abuse information. To protect accounts and keep the free trial fair (one per person), we record the IP address used for sign-ups, verification codes, password resets and failed sign-in attempts, and a hashed device identifier created by your browser at sign-up. If you use the free videos without an account, we keep a short record so we can count them: your network address (for IPv6, the network block), which video you asked for, and a random identifier your browser creates and stores for itself. The network address and the video are never stored in readable form — we keep only a one-way scrambled version, which lets us count correctly but means the record cannot be read back to show who looked up what, by us or by anyone else. The browser identifier is a random string, is not linked to any account, and contains nothing about you or your device; you can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data. All of this is deleted automatically after 2 days, and we keep no other record of visitors who don't have an account. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that sign-ups, resets and free previews come from real people.
Your choice about news and offers. Whether you agreed to receive news and offers by email, and when.
Links you paste. The YouTube links you paste are used to fetch their captions. Captions of public videos may be kept in our cache so the same video loads faster for everyone; the cache is not linked to your account.
2. How we use it
- To run your account: sign-in, credits, purchases and downloads.
- To send you account emails: sign-up and password reset codes, security alerts and payment-related messages.
- To prevent abuse: stopping repeated free trials, bots and attempts to break into accounts.
- To answer you when you contact support.
- To send news and offers, but only if you agreed.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Emails, news and offers
Account emails (codes, security alerts, payment messages) are part of the service. News and offers are optional: we only send them if you tick the box at sign-up or switch on News & offers emails in your account menu. You can stop them at any time with the unsubscribe link in any of those emails, or with the same switch.
4. Who we share it with
We use trusted services to run the site. They only receive what they need to do their job:
- Supabase: our database (account, credit and security records).
- Cloudflare: website delivery and protection, Turnstile bot checks, file storage for the caption cache, and forwarding of emails sent to our support address.
- Dodo Payments: payment processing, receipts and taxes.
- Resend and Zoho ZeptoMail: sending our emails.
- Caption-fetching network providers: requests to YouTube are made through proxy services. They receive the YouTube video address, not your account details.
- Google Fonts, cdnjs and unpkg: fonts and icons on our pages; your browser loads them directly, so these providers see your IP address.
These providers may process data in other countries (for example, our database is hosted in Japan). We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our users and the service from fraud or abuse.
5. Browser storage and cookies
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. To keep you signed in and remember small settings (such as your currency or a closed announcement), the site stores a sign-in token and those settings in your browser's local storage. Signing out removes the sign-in token. Cloudflare may set cookies needed for security and bot protection.
Counting visits. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit each page and roughly where they arrive from, so we know which guides are useful. It sets no cookies, doesn't follow you between websites, and doesn't build a profile of you or try to recognise you on a later visit. We only ever see totals, never individual people.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Payment records may be kept longer where tax or accounting rules require it. Security records, such as IP addresses used for sign-ups and sign-in attempts, are kept as long as needed to protect accounts and keep free trials fair. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal information except what we must keep by law or to prevent abuse.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access or correct your information: email us and we'll send you what we hold, or fix it.
- Delete your account: email us from your account's address and we'll delete it.
- Stop news and offers: unsubscribe link, or the switch in your account menu.
- Complain: you can contact us first, and you may also contact the data protection authority where you live.
Write to [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm the request from your account's email address so nobody else can ask for your data.
8. Children
The service is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 18, please use it only with the permission of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we'll tell you by email or on the site.
